July 10, 2015–Rain, Rain Go Away!

Welcome to the first farmer to farmer post. We are hoping to keep you updated on what is happening on the farm with not only the cows and herd progress but also crop planting and harvesting. We hope this will be a candid blog where we can share with you highs and lows of the dairy industry in Eastern Pennsylvania.

July on the farm finds us in the middle of hay making season, trying to work between the rain drops. So far this season, we have had more rainy days than sunny ones. We are currently working on getting second cutting hay off and into the barn. Sweet corn will be ready in a week or two and the field corn is about thigh high. The cows are currently trying to keep cool in the barn. We are expecting some hot temps this weekend that will dry out the lingering water puddles.

The first fair for us is in two weeks and we are working on getting the animals ready to show. You’ll find us at the Plainfield Farmer’s Fair the week of July 21st-25th. Next week, I hope to tell you a bit more about some of our prize animals who will be at the fair. Stay safe and happy this week.
